LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® + Positive Psychology for Young People
In addition to using LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® with organizations and individuals, I have found it to be especially impactful when working with young people. By combining this hands-on, creative approach with the principles of Positive Psychology, I offer a unique way for young individuals to explore their potential, build resilience, and develop a positive mindset in both one-on-one coaching and group workshops.
Supporting Young People Through Creative Play and Positive Thinking
Young people today face a range of challenges, from personal development to navigating educational and career choices. LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® provides them with a dynamic way to express their thoughts and emotions, while Positive Psychology helps them focus on their strengths and develop a positive, growth-oriented mindset.
In both individual coaching sessions and group workshops, I guide young participants to:
- Explore Their Strengths: Using LEGO® models, we build representations of their personal strengths, values, and aspirations, helping them to better understand who they are and what they can achieve.
- Build Emotional Resilience: Through Positive Psychology techniques, we focus on cultivating positive emotions, optimism, and resilience—key skills for overcoming challenges and setbacks.
- Visualize Their Future: Participants create models that reflect their goals and dreams, allowing them to visualize the path they want to take and the steps needed to get there.
- Foster Peer Support and Collaboration: In group settings, LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® encourages young people to collaborate, communicate, and support one another, building a sense of community and belonging.
How It Works
During these sessions, I guide young participants through a series of building exercises using LEGO® bricks, while integrating Positive Psychology concepts like growth mindset, emotional regulation, and goal-setting. Whether working individually or in a group, young people have the chance to engage their hands and minds in a way that makes the process of self-discovery both fun and meaningful.
- One-on-One Coaching: These sessions offer a safe space for personal reflection and growth, using LEGO® models to explore personal challenges and aspirations. Positive Psychology principles help the young person focus on their strengths and develop emotional resilience.
- Group Workshops: In a collaborative setting, participants work together to build models that represent collective goals, shared experiences, and mutual support. The combination of play and reflection encourages group cohesion and the building of trust among peers.
Why It Works
LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® engages the imagination and promotes creative problem-solving, while Positive Psychology provides a framework for focusing on strengths, fostering well-being, and building resilience. Together, these tools offer young people a hands-on, strengths-based approach to personal development that is engaging, empowering, and deeply transformative.
By using LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® in conjunction with Positive Psychology, I help young people build confidence, cultivate optimism, and take meaningful action toward their future goals. It’s about more than just play—it’s about unlocking their full potential.
